During the early 1900s, Polasek worked as a woodcarver in Vienna. When he was 15 years old, he began to carve a wooden Nativity scene. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and the American Academy of Art in Rome. He studied under the guidance of Charles Grafly, who was a mentor to him. He then emigrated to the United States and began to work as a woodcarver. He subsequently established a studio in New York City. His work has been exhibited in museums worldwide.
