Rollins Museum of Art
Located at 1000 Holt Ave Box 2765, Winter Park, FL 32789. On the Winter Park campus of Rollins College, the Rollins Museum of Art (RMA) is a leading teaching institution that stimulates transformative encounters with art and culture. The museum boasts an expansive collection of paintings and works on paper, from European Old Masters to contemporary American art. The museum also offers opportunities for students to learn through internships and volunteer activities.
The museum’s collection was begun with the donation of the first major works, including a painting by George H. Sullivan. Over the years, Rollins alumni have donated more than five hundred works. Works on display include works by Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo, Thomas Lawrence, William Merritt Chase, and Pieter Claesz. In addition to paintings and sculptures, the museum holds over two thousand works on paper. Objects from world cultures also form part of the museum’s collection.
The Rollins Museum of Art is an integral part of the campus culture and has increased its visitor count over the last decade. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum also holds several rotating exhibitions that are free to the public. The museum is open year-round. The Rollins Museum of Art holds a permanent collection of more than 5,700 objects. The collection includes over 500 paintings from the 14th through 20th centuries, including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, and Vermeer. The museum also has a sizeable collection of American art, including paintings by Thomas Cole and Frederic Church. The collection also includes more than five hundred paintings by artists from around the world, including ancient works and contemporary works from around the world. The Rollins Museum of Art was founded in 1977 by Ted and Barbara Alfond. They have partnered with Rollins officials to acquire contemporary art pieces for the collection. They also work with faculty and administrators to ensure that the museum’s collection is aligned with the curriculum. This involves liaisons with Rollins students and faculty, grant writing, and on-site teaching with the collection. The museum also hosts dozens of student exhibitions throughout the year.
The Rollins Museum of Art will be relocated to a new, state-of-the-art facility in downtown Winter Park. It is part of a larger expansion project that includes the expansion of the Alfond Inn, the permanent location of the Crummer Graduate School of Business, and the new museum facility. The museum will be a $20 million facility that will be approximately 30,000 square feet. It will also include an Education Center, study rooms, and a cafe. Next article
